Milwaukee, WI – (December 2, 2013) – The Water Council and the Milwaukee Institute are pleased to announce a partnership designed to accelerate water-based product development and research utilizing Wisconsin’s very own high performance computing and storage resources.
The Institute’s Executive Director, Jay Bayne stated “The Institute is delighted to partner with and assist Water Council member companies and Global Water Center tenants in their activities requiring applied computational science. The Institute’s high performance computing resources are especially useful for modeling, simulation, visualization and analytics in water research areas such as computational biology, fluid dynamics and finite element analysis.
Under the agreement, the Milwaukee Institute will be offering its considerable high performance computational systems and services to Global Water Center (GWC) tenants, including technical consulting in computational biology and fluid dynamics applications requiring access to ANSYS and other selected open source tools.
The Milwaukee Institute’s HPC cluster is the largest publicly accessible resource of its kind in Wisconsin and allows users the ability to simulate, model, and visualize complex applications used in product development, engineering, research and other projects. The Institute recently completed its commissioning of a major expansion to their HPC infrastructure.
“Our relationship with the Milwaukee Institute will accelerate product development and innovation activity here at the Global Water Center,” said Dean Amhaus, president and CEO of The Water Council. Amhaus added; “The Center’s tenants will now be able to easily run software simulations of products, or ground breaking research thus shorting the time from new idea, to commercial offering. Access to innovate technology tools and thought processes is precisely what collaboration at the Global Water Center is all about.”
The GWC opened in September and is home to some of the Midwest’s premiere manufacturing and water-based companies. A. O. Smith Corporation will be the first GWC tenant to take advantage of the Institute’s HPC infrastructure and services. Other companies are currently in discussions to augment their product development and design processes utilizing the Institute’s resources.
