Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts: To host Fiber Faire with demos, maker’s market & more!

MINERAL POINT, Wis.—Shake Rag Alley will once again host Fiber Faire in conjunction with the annual Cornish Festival & Celtic Celebration. On Saturday, Sept. 26, farmers, fashionistas, and makers will be on hand to share all the wonderful ways fiber can be used. Join Shake Rag Alley for demos, shopping, and a fashion show, all during Mineral Point’s Cornish Festival & Celtic Celebration! The Fiber Faire is free and open to all.

This year’s Fiber Faire events will include demos with craftspeople, artists, and farmers all over campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from artisans who make by hand, including demonstrations with spinning, weavering, dyeing, embroidery, felting & more! Not to be missed is an opportunity to learn about the life cycle of fiber with the cutest sheep (and maybe a surprise guest) you’ll ever meet—from Sugar Springs Farm. Fiber Faire will feature a flash fashion show at 2 p.m on the Green. All are welcome to show off fiber creations, their upcycled aesthetics, and fashion do’s for bragging rights. Sweet and salty treats will be available for purchase from The Sweet Life Ice Cream Parlor.

Unique crafters, makers, artists, and artisans are invited to show their wares and creations at the Fiber Faire Pop-up Market. The Fiber Faire market will be open 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. $35 includes a 6-foot table and 2 chairs set up under tents on the Green. Vendor load-in is at 9 a.m. and tear-down is at 3:30 p.m. For more information, or to register to be a vendor, visit www.ShakeRagAlley.org/fiber-faire or call (608) 987-3292.

Upcoming Events at Shake Rag Alley

Alley Stage Reading Series: Pardoned: A Post-Punk Revolution by Paula Kamen | September 20 | 4 PM

Join us for the final play of this summer’s Alley Stage Reading Series, A Post-Punk Revolution: Set in the idealistic Chicago arts scene of the 1990s, the play recasts the old debate about “selling out” and being authentic to a new generation—in this present age when every aspect of life is commodified. The trajectory of the central character of Brad from punk rocker to MAGA consultant also mirrors that of J.D. Vance, with old friends being mystified in both cases about this evolution. Tickets $5 (available online and at the door). For more information about the Alley Stage Reading Series, see https://shakeragalley.org/alley-stage

Makers & Shakers Art Party: Fabric Flowers | September 16 | 6:30-8:30 PM

Join us to make fabric flowers! These flowers can be turned into pins and other beautiful embellishments. Please bring sharp scissors. All other supplies will be provided. Basic hand sewing skills are needed (threading a needle, doing a running or gathering stitch). $5 (Project fee waived for middle and high school students!)

Fright Night | October 30 | 6 PM

Join us on October 30th at the Lind Pavilion for a night of Halloween-themed revelry, including some vintage silent horror films, a DJ and dance party, costume contest, cash bar, and eats & treats. Doors open at 6pm. $10 tickets available in advance and at the door.

Trick’r Treat | October 31 | 5-7 PM

If you are a kid or want to act like a kid—put on your wildest costume and come to Shake Rag Alley! Children of all ages will meet friendly (not scary) costumed characters who will be passing out Halloween treats at each of the Shake Rag historic buildings. This Mineral Point tradition is enjoyable for the whole family and a way to meet so many other free spirits and check out their wacky get-ups.
