MILWAUKEE, WI—During his campaign, Mayor Tom Barrett said repeatedly that he would take on the role of Milwaukee’s top salesman to attract new businesses, residents and tourists to Milwaukee. He will make good on that promise as he travels with a contingent of business people to the annual International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) next week.

The annual convention which attracts some 30,000 people including leasing agents, shopping center developers and owners, retailers, municipal officials and products and services vendors, will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada from May 23 through May 26. While at the conference, Mayor Barrett will participate in a “town meeting” featuring more than 35 mayors of U.S. cities as panelists during a session dubbed, “Private and Public Partnership in Retail Development.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity for me to represent Milwaukee and exchange dialogue with Mayors of cities that have successfully attracted retailers and developers,” said Mayor Barrett.

“I want businesses to know that Milwaukee is open for business, and that we welcome the opportunity to have them in Milwaukee. I look forward to engaging in meaningful dialogue about growth management, permitting and tax incremental financing (TIF). ICSC is the premiere gathering of retail “dealmakers” and should provide a venue to attract new retail development for projects now underway such as Pabst City and the Park East development,” the Mayor said.

County Executive Scott Walker will also attend the conference. Among the business leaders who plan to attend ICSC are: Max Rasansky, President of the Polacheck Company; Jerry Franke and Daniel McCarthy, WisPark, LLC; Stephanie Lyons, Godfrey & Kahn, S.C.; and Robert Schmidt, III, Boulder Venture.
