The Blast Muay Thai: Madison Leader recognized as 2025 Influential Black Leader opens new Martial Arts Academy

MADISON, WI — A Madison coach and community leader recognized as one of Wisconsin’s Most Influential Black Leaders for 2025 is expanding his impact with the opening of Wolf Pack Combat Academy, a new 7,300 square foot martial arts facility in Dane County.

Founded by Mark ShaH Evans and his wife Abby Lex-Evans, the academy represents years of work centered on mentorship, discipline, and personal development. As a Black and Mexican business owner and mentor, Evans has focused much of his work on creating spaces centered on discipline, accountability, and opportunity for youth in the Madison community.

Evans has spent years working with youth in the Madison area, including individuals connected to the Department of Corrections system, using martial arts to help build structure, confidence, emotional regulation, and resilience.

Now, that work expands into a larger facility serving more than 150 members, with programs designed for both youth and adults.

The academy will host an official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce on May 19 at 10:00 AM, followed by a grand opening celebration on May 30 at 1:00 PM.

The May 30 event will feature music from multi-platinum producer DJ Pain 1 and provide the community with an inside look at the academy’s high-energy training environment through live pad work, striking demonstrations, and training sessions.

“This isn’t just about fighting,” Evans said. “It’s about giving people control over their life when they feel like they have none.”

Programs at Wolf Pack Combat Academy include Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, strength training, and self-defense, with a strong emphasis on discipline, accountability, and long-term personal growth.

Evans is also co-founder of the Urban Community Arts Network, where his work extends beyond athletics into broader community engagement and youth mentorship.

The academy also offers the Reznikoff Iron Wolf Scholarship, helping ensure youth can access training regardless of financial circumstances.

For Evans, the opening represents more than the growth of a business. It reflects a larger mission to create spaces where people can challenge themselves, build resilience, and find structure through martial arts and mentorship.

Wolf Pack Combat Academy continues a growing effort to connect fitness, discipline, and community impact within Madison and Dane County.
