Wolf Pack Combat Academy: Madison coach mentoring at-risk youth opens new academy May 30

MADISON, WI — A Madison coach focused on youth development and community mentorship is expanding his work with the opening of Wolf Pack Combat Academy, a 7,300 square foot martial arts facility in Dane County.

Founded by Mark ShaH Evans and his wife Abby Lex-Evans, the academy has grown from a 2,200 square foot space into a facility now serving more than 150 members.

The academy will host a ribbon cutting on May 19 at 10:00 AM, followed by a grand opening on May 30 at 1:00 PM. The May 30 event will feature music from multi-platinum producer DJ Pain 1 and provide a look inside the academy’s training environment.

Evans has spent years working with youth in the Madison area, including individuals connected to the Department of Corrections system. Through martial arts, he focuses on building discipline, emotional regulation, and confidence.

“This isn’t just about fighting,” Evans said. “It’s about giving people control over their life when they feel like they have none.”

Wolf Pack Combat Academy offers programs for adults and youth, including Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, strength training, and self-defense.

The academy also offers the Reznikoff Iron Wolf Scholarship, helping youth train regardless of financial circumstances. Evans is also co-founder of the Urban Community Arts Network, extending his work beyond the gym and into the broader community.

Evans, who was recently recognized as one of Wisconsin’s Most Influential Black Leaders for 2025, said the goal is to create a space where people are challenged, supported, and given structure to grow.

Wolf Pack Combat Academy represents a continued effort to build stronger individuals and a stronger community through discipline and mentorship.
