GREEN BAY, WI – ArtFest Green Bay presented by Nicolet Bank and Pomp’s Tire proudly presents an annual community art project, fulfilling its mission of bringing art to the streets of Downtown Green Bay that will last generations.
Every year, ArtFest invites community members of all artistic skill levels to make their mark on a downtown art project. Individuals add their own touch to a grand piece representing the beauty of coming together to make something bigger than oneself.
Previous projects include the “Community Bloom” mosaic planter located in the Olde Main Street District, the “Ho-Chunk Heritage Mural” along the Fox River Trail, and the “Spirit of the Fox” clay mural on Walnut Street. All three of these projects were constructed by the hands of hundreds of community members and continue to inspire the public today.
This year’s project will brighten up the alley between Hotel Northland and the Pine Street Parking Ramp by painting the concrete breeze blocks to create a colorful mural. The mural will activate the space through color, pattern, and community engagement while working in direct relationship with the existing architecture.
“We are so excited to bring the fourth ArtFest Community Art Project to the Downtown District, just steps away from the event itself,” expressed Jenny VandenLangenberg, Director of First Impressions at Downtown Green Bay, Inc. “Each year we look to improve an underutilized area by getting attendees of all ages and abilities involved. We love the legacy pieces that are created and can’t wait to bring some color and vibrancy to the Pine Street Ramp!”
Participants are welcome to select from a shared color palette and let creativity guide them, resulting in a dynamic, non-repetitive surface built through collective decision-making. Community members are also invited to suggest titles, allowing the final name of the piece to emerge through public input as part of the collaborative process.
“I’m excited to watch the mural take shape through the participation of our community,” remarked the project’s lead artist, Annie Stenseth. “Every participant will paint a small part of the mural, and together those individual contributions will create a unified public artwork. I hope people walk away feeling connected not only to the mural, but also to the neighbors, artists, and community members who helped create it, knowing they contributed to something that belongs to the whole community.”
The public is invited to participate in the ArtFest Community Art Project in the alleyway between Hotel Northland and the Pine Street Parking Ramp on Saturday, August 22, from 10 AM – 4 PM, and Sunday, August 23, from 10 AM – 2 PM (or until completed).
