Milwaukee, October 15, 2024 – Acts Housing today announced plans to move its Milwaukee office to downtown’s 270 E. Kilbourn building where the nonprofit that makes home ownership possible for buyers with income, credit, language and other barriers will occupy 16,000+ square-feet of space on the campus of Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (MGIC), the principal subsidiary of MGIC Investment Corporation (NYSE: MTG). The relocation will accommodate Acts’ growing team and support the region’s need for affordable housing.
Acts will move from 2414 W. Vliet, an 8,000 square-foot, two-story building that was once the convent of St. Michael’s Parish. The nonprofit purchased the building for $1 in 2014 and then invested in a significant repair and rehab effort. Since that time, the number of Acts employees has increased from less than 10 to nearly 50.
“To say we’ve outgrown our current home would be an understatement,” said Acts Housing President & CEO Michael Gosman. “From this building, we helped 1,700 families become homeowners, partnered with more than 250 families to reclaim distressed properties, and invested more than $200 million back into the Milwaukee community.”
Acts will move to its new 270 E. Kilbourn location in mid-November, joining MGIC at the company’s corporate headquarters and furthering the long-standing relationship and shared mission of the two organizations, which includes strategic and technical support, board service, and financial and in-kind support. Non-Executive Chairman Curt Culver is a longtime supporter and CEO Tim Mattke serves on Acts’ Board of Directors.
“We are immensely grateful to MGIC for providing us with a fully furnished, beautiful office space in the heart of downtown,” Gosman said. “It’s just one of the many ways MGIC, their leadership, and employees have contributed to our progress over the years.”
MGIC’s Mattke added, “The work that Acts Housing is doing to empower Milwaukee families and neighborhoods through homeownership is critically important. As a company whose very purpose is to help make homeownership possible, we’re energized at this opportunity to further support Acts’ mission and work. We look forward to welcoming the Acts team downtown.”
Acts provides homebuyer and financial education and counseling, lending and real estate services, and home rehab coaching. Since its 1995 founding, over 4,000 families have purchased homes through the nonprofit. Acts families have reclaimed and rehabbed nearly 1,000 foreclosed properties, investing nearly $342 million into their new homes and communities.
“Our Vliet Street location served our growing team and community well. We hope to sell the building to a mission-aligned partner that will continue to make this corner of the city one in which we can all take pride,” Gosman explained. “The best part is we will invest the proceeds of the sale back into Acts Lending so we can help more families purchase and repair homes.”
In addition to its Milwaukee location, Acts Housing also has an office in Beloit which opened in 2019.
