NEENAH, Wis. (March 19, 2018) – Each year, The Daily Reporter, a statewide construction newspaper, honors outstanding Wisconsin construction projects at Top Projects in Wisconsin. This year, eight of Miron Construction’s projects are being recognized: Community First Credit Union, new corporate office in Neenah; University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union Redevelopment Phase II & Alumni Park in Madison; University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Center for Health, Education, and Wellness in River Falls; St. Norbert College Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center in De Pere; Encapsys, LLC in Appleton; Little Prairie Primary School in East Troy; Bellin Sports Medicine & Orthopedics Clinic in Green Bay; and the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County Everett Roehl STEM Center in Marshfield.
The awards, which will be presented at a banquet on May 17, 2018, at the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee, recognize members of the construction industry-including general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and owners-whose projects exceeded expectations the year prior.

Community First Credit Union’s new corporate office
Community First Credit Union (CFCU) opened a new corporate office that includes a branch location. The two-story building has three wings, a grand main entrance, community space, an area for corporate functions with plenty of room for growth and a branch credit union with drive-through. The large campus-style site is located in a convenient area with access to key channels of the Fox Valley near an estimated two-acre storm water management pond.
University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union Redevelopment Phase II & Alumni Park
The Wisconsin Union Redevelopment project aimed to enhance the experience of faculty and students by restoring significant spaces while preserving the history of the existing architecture. Phase II work consisted of much-needed mechanical upgrades and cosmetic restoration to a number of iconic spaces including Der Rathskeller, The Trophy Room, the historic Terrace, Main Lounge, Tripp Commons, Old Madison, Porter Butts Gallery, and the Great Hall. Accessibility issues were also addressed throughout the building’s central core, east wing, and Terrace spaces. To meet the demands of students and faculty, the cafeteria-style dining space was upgraded to three separate eateries.
The Memorial Union is one of the most beloved historic buildings on campus, and one of the project goals was to enhance this iconic place. The design team and Miron worked closely with the Wisconsin State Historical Society and student groups to ensure the integrity of the building was preserved, while improving its overall relevance, excitement, and vibrancy.
University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Center for Health, Education, and Wellness
The new Falcon Center provides indoor and outdoor spaces for the Health and Human Performance (HHP) department programs, athletics, and student recreation. The facility was built around the existing Hunt Arena/Knowles Center with updates and enhancements to both.
The new activities complex includes classrooms, a human performance laboratory, a large gymnasium, dance studio, auxiliary gym, offices, locker rooms, training rooms, and other supporting spaces. These spaces provide students, faculty and staff more options during desired workout times, greater fitness and wellness opportunities for the campus community, improved player and spectator amenities, higher quality education experiences, and increased convenience for all users.
The Falcon Center project also included site improvements, expanded parking, retention ponds, a new maintenance building, updates to Ramer Field, including artificial turf and a new press box, track and field facilities, and construction of a new soccer field and softball stadium.
St. Norbert College Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center
The 40-year-old indoor athletics facility, known as the Schuldes Sports Center, underwent an elaborate rejuvenation and rebranding. The complete renovation of and additions to the existing building include an upper level overlooking a new pool with spectator seating and a view of the Fox River; locker rooms for team and officials; facilities for laundry, equipment and storage; Hall of Fame, lobby, and concessions; and new fitness/weight training facilities with wellness offices, a training room, hydrotherapy, and classrooms. The existing gymnasium was remodeled to include a new rubber track surface. The addition of a competition pool with locker rooms and coach’s office will allow St. Norbert to reinstate its NCAA-level swim team; the college last competed in swimming at the NCAA level in 2009.
Encapsys, a leader in the microencapsulation industry, engaged Miron to construct a new headquarters in Appleton, Wisconsin. The new corporate office facility features three distinct areas: corporate office space for business and administrative functions, research laboratory space with associated scientist/technician office space, and a staging-up facility.
The new, one-story Pre-K through second grade primary school replaced an existing school that had outlived its useful life. The new primary school features a gymnasium, commons area with clerestory windows for natural lighting, and a prominent learning commons. Each classroom in the Pre-K through second grade primary school is identical, with shared resource spaces along the corridor to allow visibility between the resource areas and classrooms. Glazed garage doors between classrooms enable co-teaching and an open, collaborative environment in support of the District’s competency-based learning.
The new school shares a site with the existing Prairie View Elementary School, allowing new asphalt parking lots and drives, concrete sidewalks, LED lighting, new playground areas, and traffic improvements to enhance student safety to benefit both schools. The new construction also permitted the existing Prairie View Elementary to return to the third through fifth grade program it was designed to house.
Bellin Sports Medicine & Orthopedics Clinic
The new Bellin Health Titletown Sports Medicine & Orthopedics clinic offers state-of-the-art injury prevention, performance improvement, injury treatment and therapy services. The 52,000-square-foot facility houses lab space with a full array of diagnostic equipment including MRI, x-ray, fluoroscopy and ultrasound technologies. It also features an assessment area where athletes can perform their sport while a health professional monitors their form to ensure they are healthy to play. Bellin Health Titletown serves both the general public as well as professional athletes. To ensure privacy during treatment, the facility includes a separate VIP area for its high-profile patients.
University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County Everett Roehl STEM Center
The scope of this project included a new two-story STEM building and renovation of existing science facilities. The first floor houses two labs—one microbiology and one multipurpose—as well as student study spaces, a lounge and commons area, and office space. The second floor includes two chemistry labs, office spaces, student study spaces, and a corridor that connects to the Aldo Leopold Science Building. Renovations to the Aldo Leopold building included a distance education classroom and engineering lab, among many other improvements.
