Wisconsin Academy: Academy Evening talk with Dean of UWM College of Health Sciences explores the healing potential of near-infrared and blue light

MADISON—Phototherapy, the use of light in medical treatment, is producing surprisingly successful results in the treatment of a variety of ailments from topical infections and chronic wounds to autoimmune and chronic degenerative diseases. The Wisconsin Academy is pleased to welcome Dr. Chukuka S. Enwemeka, dean of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee’s College of Health Sciences, for a discussion about the latest medical applications for near-infrared and blue light.

Dr. Enwemeka’s Academy Evening talk, Full Spectrum: The Promise of Light as Medicine, will be held from 7–8:30 pm on Tuesday, March 25, in the DeLuca Forum of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, 330 North Orchard Street, Madison.

About Our Presenter

Dr. Chukuka S. Enwemeka joined the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee as tenured professor and dean of the College of Health Sciences in 2009 and was appointed UWM distinguished professor in 2012. He received his BS and MS in Physical Therapy from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, respectively. Dr. Enwemeka earned his PhD in Pathokinesiology from New York University, and did his post-doctoral research training at NYU’s Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine. He has written more than eighty-five original research papers, monographs, and book chapters, and delivered hundreds of papers, seminars, symposia, and workshops nationally and internationally. Worldwide, Dr. Enwemeka is one of the foremost authorities in the area of photoengineering of tissue repair process with visible and near-infrared light and lasers. His academic career has taken him to thirty-nine countries and all but five of the 50 states in the union, either as a visiting professor, invited presenter, keynote speaker, visiting scholar, or as an invited university guest.
