Skilled carpenters and flooring installers sought for expanding national retail services division
Green Bay, Wis. – H.J. Martin and Son has added 40 new employees over the past three months, and is looking to hire 10 traveling skilled carpenters and flooring installers in the next three weeks, David Martin announced. The available positions are in the national retail services division, handling store fixture installations, store décor installations, multi-store rollouts, store resets and remodels.
The need for additional employees was driven by an increasing number of projects H.J. Martin has been able to secure with national retailers, according to Martin. “Our business is labor driven,” he says. “National retailers trust us to be responsive, safe and productive.”
In an effort to help fill the open positions, the company is working with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and its Job Center of Wisconsin. Anne Prunty, human resources manager for H.J. Martin said that an on-site recruitment session will be held Feb. 26, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Job Center, 2701 S. Previous work with the DWD’s Green Bay office led to the hiring of nine merchandisers, according to Prunty. Applicants submitted their résumés directly to the Job Center of Wisconsin website.
The other recent new hires were general laborers, who have been plugged into merchandising and fixture installation work. Many were identified with the assistance of Forward Service Corporation (FSC), a private, 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.
The Transportation Alliance for New Solutions (TrANS) program of FSC gave H.J. Martin access to a pool of dependable, committed general laborers. Forward Service Corporation provides services to prepare individuals for employment in the building trades and in the road construction industry. The TrANS staff works closely with potential employers to identify labor needs, then tailors classroom instruction to prepare potential employees for job placement.
“We’re thankful for the assistance of Brian Pelon, John Lewis and others at the Department of Workforce Development office in Green Bay, along with Ranard Morris of Forward Service Corporation,” says Martin. “With their help we’ve been able to find a number of qualified candidates which we’ve hired. We look forward to continuing these partnerships.”
