The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) today released a report on the performance of the state transportation system. The report represents the first compilation of WisDOT’s new MAPSS Performance Dashboard, which provides a data-driven analysis to show performance trends for 23 separate measures.

“At a time when everyone’s budget is tight, Governor Walker has asked all public agencies to practice wise stewardship of the taxpayer’s money,” said WisDOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb. “The MAPSS Performance Dashboard provides transparency on how we’re doing and gives the department an added tool to help us meet our goals and achieve success.”

The MAPSS Performance Dashboard shows the performance of the state’s transportation system in five strategic goal areas: mobility, accountability, preservation, safety and service. It includes such measures as time to clear highway incidents, construction projects completed on-time and on-budget, highway and bridge condition, traffic crashes and Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) services.

The January 2012 MAPSS Performance Dashboard Report shows overall the transportation system is performing well, with most performance trends holding steady or moving in a favorable direction based on targets established by the department. The trends show urban freeway congestion and surplus property management trending down.

WisDOT will monitor the measures, targeted goals and performance trends and make adjustments as needed to meet strategic goals. “We want all the measures improving and trending in a favorable direction,” said Secretary Gottlieb.
