(September 15, 2011) Today, State Representative Mark Honadel (R-21 South Milwaukee), Chairman of the Assembly Energy and Utilities Committee, joined with ranking Democrat State Rep. Josh Zepnick (D-9 Milwaukee) to recognize the good news of mobile broadband expansion by AT&T.

“Just last week, Governor Walker was in Milwaukee with AT&T officials to announce new jobs from the expansion of U-Verse TV services, and now we have another great investment in our telecommunication infrastructure which will help households, businesses and everyone in our community with better and faster broadband choices” said Honadel. “This is a direct result of State legislation that I worked on as Chairman of the Energy & Utilities committee and I am proud to be part of helping create more jobs and giving customers more choices in the marketplace.”

Honadel referred to AB-14, which overhauls regulation of telecommunications business practices in Wisconsin, with the goal of paving the way for innovation and easing the entrance of new communications technologies into the marketplace.

Zepnick added “This is another sign of AT&T’s commitment to making Wisconsin a major player in the upgrading of telecommunications systems in the Milwaukee area, one which will have positive ripple effects throughout the state of Wisconsin. I am proud to have worked on the legislation with Representative Honadel, which passed on a bipartisan vote of 80-13 in the Assembly (and 25-8 in the Senate).”

Zepnick is also a strong supporter of the merger between AT&T and T-Mobile, which would lead to further technological improvements in Milwaukee and more union-based jobs in Wisconsin.
