Madison – Governor Scott Walker announced today that the City of Stanley, Chippewa County, will receive a $750,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant–Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to fund water system improvements.

“It is important to assist projects that can have a major impact on community revitalization,” Governor Walker said. “I’m pleased that we could work with the City of Stanley improve water quantity and quality.”

The city’s current water supply and flow are compromised by mineral build-up. To address this concern, the city will add and integrate softening equipment at the treatment plant, and modify the treatment plant to accommodate new wells. The project also includes constructing a reclaim tank at the existing treatment plant and integrating that into the existing distribution system. The community will construct two new wells and associated distribution equipment. Total project cost is $3.9 million.

CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtown areas.
