Madison, WI. — The Wisconsin Department of Administration has announced CG Schmidt as the recipient of the Accolade Award in the category of construction at the biennial Business Opportunities in the Government Sector (BOGS) Workshop on April 26, 2011 at Monona Terrace. This is the highest honor given by the state to acknowledge private sector partners that demonstrate superior minority involvement in state procurement and construction related activities.

CG Schmidt was praised for their commitment to providing opportunities to minority owned businesses to participate in the $78.5 construction of Union South on the UW-Madison Campus. “CG Schmidt voluntarily set a goal of 15 percent minority participation for the Project, and offered should they fail to achieve the goal, they would pay the state a penalty of $250,000.00,” in a citation read at the event by Jeff Plale, Administrator of the Division of State Facilities and Secretary of the State of Wisconsin Building Commission. The state’s standard contracting goal is 5% minority business enterprises (MBE) participation.

CG Schmidt achieved the highest goal ever set for MBE participation levels on a state construction project. “Through our firm’s leadership, CG Schmidt opened access for 27 minority- owned businesses in the state to provide sub-contractor and consulting services on the project, allowing them to capture $12 million in revenue,” said Rick Schmidt, President and Chief Executive Officer for CG Schmidt.
