New Run & Walk on Golf Course; A first for a Milwaukee County Parks Golf Course

Greenfield, Wis. – This fall, taking a walk can do more than clear your mind or exercise your canine. It can help improve access to the treatment of pain – an often overlooked disease that is more prevalent than any other in the United States.

On Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 9:00 a.m., Advanced Pain Management (APM) will host its first annual Pain Awareness 5K Run/3K Walk at Greenfield Park and Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit the American Pain Foundation to educate, support and advocate for people affected by pain.

“With over 75 million Americans suffering from pain each year, we thought it was important to give those individuals a voice,” said Yogendra Bharat, chief medical officer of Advanced Pain Management. “The Pain Awareness Run/Walk is our way to help spread awareness in the local community about the prevalence of pain and raise money to help support those who suffer from it.”

Pain Awareness 5K Run participants will follow the perimeter of the golf course and end on the paved trails in the park where the 3K walk will take place. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome at the 3K event. For the safety of the runners, Greenfield Golf Course will be open exclusively for the race in the morning and closed to golfers from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

The Pain Awareness Run/Walk entry fee is $25 and includes the post-race picnic and award presentation. Registration is available on http://www.active.com and on http://www.painawarenessrun.com. All proceeds from the Pain Awareness Run/Walk will benefit the American Pain Foundation.

“We’re honored to be able to host the APM race at Greenfield Park and Golf Course,” said Milwaukee County Parks Director Sue Black. “I think the runners will enjoy the hills and scene of the course, and it’s a fun, interactive way to raise awareness about pain.”
