The Rainbird Foundation: Takes a stand for the end of child abuse

The 1,000 Mile Journey Fundraiser

April 25, 2010

The Rainbird Foundation is a Madison-based non-profit organization committed to the end of child abuse. Its inaugural fundraising event this spring will be The 1,000 Mile Journey at the State Capitol in Madison, WI. 1,000 people will walk a mile around the Capitol for the end of child abuse.

The event begins at 12:00 noon on Sunday, April 25, 2010. Pre-registration is required.

Having come from abuse, co-founder Hanna Roth started Rainbird because, in her words:

“I came to realize that millions of children endure unimaginable suffering while many of us do little or nothing. Each one of those children will have to experience some kind of recovery to have a healthy life, which requires efforts and resources that many don’t have. I saw that if we as a people were aware of this, we wouldn’t let it continue, and it became clear to me that the persistence of child abuse is directly related to our unwillingness to confront it. What we can’t confront, we can do nothing about. I could not do nothing.”

Co-founder Elisabeth Norton was moved to action by Ms. Roth’s unshakable stand. From Ms. Norton’s perspective, “Ending child abuse provides a foundation of health on which to build a world that works for everyone. The end of child abuse demands us to build effective partnerships with every part of society, and deal with the vast religious, cultural, and socioeconomic factors that allow for the persistence of child abuse. The 1,000 Mile Journey is just the first step.”

The 1,000 Mile Journey is developing a visible, unified community presence committed to the end of child abuse. To walk, volunteer, contribute, and get information about The 1,000 Mile Journey, go to: http://www.1000milejourney.org.
