MADISON– Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the City of Marion, Waupaca/Shawano Counties, will receive a $253,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities and Economic Development (CDBG-PFED) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to provide the infrastructure necessary to support a business expansion.
“My administration is committed to helping communities with their efforts to support new economic development opportunities,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased that we could assist the City of Marion in helping a local business expand.”
Marion Plywood, founded in 1894, is one of the largest producers of plywood in the U.S. The company needs to expand its facility in Marion to accommodate a new production line. The City of Marion plans to use Commerce funding to relocate water and sewer mains to facilitate the company’s expansion. Marion Plywood plans to create 10 full-time positions over a one-year period and will retain 112 full-time positions. Total project cost is $3,331,378.
CDBG-PFED grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community buildings, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtown areas.
