Two top state politicians told new economy leaders the state and national economies can grow despite the current tough times.
But Democratic Senator Russ Feingold and Republican Congressman Paul Ryan outlined different remedies this week before about 300 attendees of the Wisconsin Biotechnology & Medical Device Association meeting in Pewaukee.
Feingold said it was time for a national nuts and bolts discussion about how to ensure economic growth. He pushed his “E-4” economic development plan, which he said would provide the kind of support the biotech industry needs to continue to innovate and grow. He said the plan would increase support for small businesses through expansions of grant programs, help those businesses find qualified workers and fund the development of energy-related jobs.
Ryan, a member of the House Budget Committee, said the country is at “a critical crossroads” and outlined his own economic development plan. It’s called “The Road Map for America.” He told conference attendees his road map would ensure the fulfillment of the health care and retirement security missions of current entitlement programs, pay off the federal debt and make America more competitive.
