Wisconsin’s largest private landowner is being recognized for its environmental, social and economic performance.

Plum Creek Timber Company has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, made up of about 300 leading companies.

In Wisconsin, Plum Creek manages approximately 330,000 acres of forestland in 26 counties throughout the state.

Among the timber company’s sustainability efforts in the state …

–This year, the company planted approximately 1.5 million seedlings, planning for

the natural regeneration of millions of trees.

–The company is involved in efforts to protect the endangered Karner blue butterfly and the Kirtland’s Warbler.

–And since 2002, Plum Creek has helped conserve more than 45,000 acres of land in Wisconsin to

help expand wildlife areas, including a big parcel near the Wolf River that will always be open to the public for outdoor recreation.

Along with Plum Creek, other companies named in the 2008 Index are PepsiCo, Caterpillar, Kraft Foods and Motorola. Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are the first global indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide.
