WHEDA Executive Director Antonio Riley joins in ground breaking for development’s third phase
Madison – With over $11 million invested in a once-boarded up nursing home, Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA®) Executive Director Antonio Riley joined local leaders at Hometown Harbor in Racine Thursday to celebrate the grand opening of the senior living community and break ground on a third phase of the development.
“This is the type of project WHEDA loves to play a role in,” said Riley. “Here we have met a housing need for the area’s low income seniors, and we were able to do so in a neighborhood that is hungry for good development. We’re proud to bring affordable housing and assisted living options like Hometown Harbor to this neighborhood.”
This past April, WHEDA announced $3.2 million in affordable housing tax credits to complete the third phase of Hometown Harbor, in addition to the $8.5 million awarded in 2005 and 2004.
The development provides many modern conveniences to its tenants. On-site services include emergency assistance through a 24-hour monitoring system, nursing assistance, beauty and barber services, and transportation to community services and activities.
WHEDA is an independent state authority that works with lenders to provide low-cost financing for housing and small business development in Wisconsin. For more information on WHEDA’s housing programs, call 1-800-334-6873 or visit WHEDA’s website www.wheda.com.
