MADISON – The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) will hold public hearings on
Thursday, October 4th regarding Madison Gas and Electric Company’s (MGE) request to change
electric and natural gas rates.
MGE is requesting to increase electric rates by 9% and natural gas rates by 3.73%, or about $7
per month for the average residential electric customer and $5 per month for the average
residential natural gas customer.
When a utility requests a change in rates, the PSC conducts a thorough audit of the utility’s
expenses and revenues. The agency will look at the amount MGE needs to provide a reliable
source of energy to customers, which includes costs of fuel, maintenance, new construction and
environmental protection.
Public comments on MGE’s application will be included in the record the Commission will
review to make a decision. The Commission has the authority to approve, deny or modify the
application. Citizens are encouraged to attend one of the hearings which are scheduled for:
