Small Business Times: Emteq named Small Business of the Year

Emteq, a company that invents, manufactures and supplies parts for the aerospace industry, was named the Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce (WCCC) Small Business of the Year today. Emteq is based in Muskego but will soon move into a new plant in New Berlin. The larger plant reflects the company’s growth in the past several years, according to Jerry Jendusa, co-owner, president and chief executive officer of the company. In 2004, Emteq had 100 percent revenue growth to about $21.5 million and expanded its workforce by almost 70 percent to 125. Emteq now has 145 full-time employees, and Jendusa said the company is expecting to hire 10 more by the end of the year.

Jendusa accepted the award on behalf of his company today at the WCCC luncheon, which was held at the Country Springs Hotel. The other companies honored among the WCCC’s Top Ten Small Businesses of the Year today were: Anderson Seal Inc., a New Berlin-based manufacturer; Innovative Signs Inc., a Waukesha-based graphic arts company; Hallmark Building Supplies Inc., a Milwaukee-based wholesale distribution company that will move to Waukesha in June; Comstar LLC., a Waukesha-based Web site developer; Outpost Natural Foods Cooperative, a Milwaukee-based retailer; Kesslers Diamond Center, a Menomonee Falls-based jeweler; Total Comfort of Wisconsin Inc., a Pewaukee-based mechanical contractor; API Software Inc., a Hartford-based software development company; and PyraMax Bank, a Greenfield-based financial services firm. The awards are presented by the WCCC and Small Business Times each year to companies, based on the following criteria: no more than 250 employees; growth in employees or sales; minimum of two years in business; based in southeastern Wisconsin; committed to good business practices; history of good employee relations and benefits; strong customer focus; and financial growth and consistency. The winners are profiled in the print edition of this week’s Small Business Times. The WCCC also presented a special “Choice Award” to Almont Gallery today for its work in promoting the revitalization of downtown Waukesha. In addition, Patti Wallner, president of the WCCC, announced today that the chamber is joining a new health care insurance plan offered by the Business Health Care Group of Southeast Wisconsin and Humana Inc. Also at today’s event, TDS Metrocom regional marketing manager Jon Ollmann presented a plaque to Small Business Times publisher Dan Meyer to commemorate the publication’s 10-year anniversary.
