Zmags: Welcomes David Powell as its new CFO

Zmags, the leader in innovative, cloud-based digital publishing software, has named David Powell as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately.

Mr. Powell brings nearly two decades of highly effective financial management to Zmags, and will be instrumental in guiding the company through a period of strategic growth initiated by the company’s recent acquisition by investment firm, The Gores Group.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the innovative team at Zmags during this exciting time in the company’s history, and look forward to working to expand the company’s visibility, product offerings and market share,” said Powell. “Together, we will manage and expand on the explosive growth being experienced by Zmags, and will shepherd the company into a position as an undeniable industry leader.”

“David’s 18+ years of leadership experience as a senior finance executive for both high-growth startups and established corporations makes him an excellent fit for Zmags,” said Paul Cooley, SVP of Business Development with The Gores Group. “Considering the aggressive growth targets for Zmags, it is critical that we have strong financial leadership in place, and we are extremely confident in David’s results-oriented credentials and proven leadership abilities.”

Mr. Powell’s experience stretches across industry verticals, most recently serving as CFO at two Massachusetts-based companies; Six Red Marbles, LLC, a leading digital & print learning materials publisher, and Digilant, Inc., a leading advertising media technology company.

“Given David’s experience, I have no doubt that he will be able to quickly grasp the intricacies of our business and help make immediate operational improvements,” said Zmags’ CEO, Brian Rigney. “Our current growth offers serious opportunities and challenges, and I’m looking forward to working alongside David to capitalize on this exciting time for the entire Zmags team.”

Mr. Powell, a long-time Massachusetts resident, graduated with dual degrees from Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business, including an MBA and a Masters in Accounting and was also named a finalist for the Boston Business Journal’s CFO of the Year award in 2012.
