DENVER – CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, was recently honored by the American Council of Engineering Companies at its 2010 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala dinner in Washington D.C., April 27.

The Marquette Interchange Reconstruction Project, completed by CH2M HILL as part of Milwaukee Transportation Partners, was named an Honor Award winner at the ACEC Gala. The $810 million project involved replacing and modernizing an outdated and inadequate four-level system interchange, originally constructed in the 1960s, in downtown Milwaukee, with a five-level interchange at the confluence of I-94, I-43 and I-794. The project team was responsible for widening and improvements to 12 miles of urban freeways, design of 50 ramps, and construction of more than 180 structures.

Another CH2M HILL project, the 11th Street Bridge Interchange Justification Report (IJR), was named a National Finalist at the ACEC Gala.

The 11th Street Bridges project, a fast-track project, addresses long-standing freeway connectivity issues in the heart of downtown Washington D.C. between the Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-395 and I-695) and the Anacostia Freeway (I-295/DC 295). CH2M HILL prepared the IJR, which officially documented the request for a change in access to the interstate system and formally presented the geometric/operational features of the proposed design solution for the project.

The ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards competition and black-tie Gala celebrate the innovation, expertise, and achievements of ACEC member firms from throughout the nation. Known as the “Academy Awards” of the engineering industry, the Gala applauds the accomplishments of private engineering firms in an elegant celebration attended by industry leaders, members of Congress, federal agency officials and the media.
