MADISON – How the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the city of Milwaukee cooperate on urban planning and architectural issues will be the focus of a brown-bag session at Madison’s Overture Center on Tuesday, June 2.

Co-sponsored by UW-Madison, the city of Madison and Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, and the American Institute of Architects-Southwest Wisconsin chapter, the event will feature Robert Greenstreet, dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at UW-Milwaukee.

The event will be held in the Wisconsin Studio and is free and open to the public. Organizers ask that those planning to attend pre-register with Kelly Thompson-Frater at remodeling@thompson-frater.com.

Greenstreet will describe the process Milwaukee uses to encourage cooperation between the city and university. The process starts in a creative, academic atmosphere and often pushes the envelope on traditional city design ideas.

In 2003, Greenstreet was asked by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to become the city’s director of planning and design – helping promote a strong town and gown relationship. Then, in 2008, the position evolved into the chair of city development, which Greenstreet still holds. He also served as chair of the city’s planning commission from 1993-2004.
