Madison, WI - For the fourth time, Madison Gas and Electric Co. (MGE) has received recognition as a Green Master in the Wisconsin Green Masters Program. The Green Masters Program recognizes and assesses Wisconsin businesses on their sustainability performance in a variety of sustainability categories.
MGE partners with their customers for a more sustainable future. Under their Energy 2030 framework, MGE has set goals of greater use of renewable resources and of reducing carbon emissions by 40% from 2005 levels by 2030. MGE plans to achieve these goals by working closely with their customers, such as their new smart thermostat program to better manage our collective energy use, their Charge@Home program for electric vehicle owners to quickly charge their car’s battery at home, as well as their fully subscribed community solar program to grow our use of sustainable energy sources.
Sustainability also is part of MGE's daily internal operations—from supply chain, to transportation, to recycling, to energy use.
"Participating in the Green Masters Program provides an annual assessment that keeps us focused on continuous improvement—whether working with our customers toward a cleaner energy future or working with our employees on daily operations," said Jeff Jaeckels, MGE’s Director – Safety and Environmental Affairs.
MGE recently received approval to own and operate a 66-megawatt wind farm. It will be MGE’s largest wind farm to date. Additionally, their utility-scale Shared Solar installation went online in January 2017. Customers have fully subscribed this community solar project and MGE maintains a waiting list for future projects.
“It is clear that MGE has embraced sustainability, and has integrated the idea into all facets of their business," praised Tom Eggert, executive director of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. “Sustainability is obviously a core value,” added Eggert. “Every year that MGE has participated in the program, they have been recognized in the group of top-performing companies.”
