The GOP’s staggering cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act are bringing our country’s health care system to its breaking point. After Trump and Republicans in Congress slashed over $1 trillion from health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations, over 1,200 hospitals, clinics, and essential service providers have closed, cut services, or are at risk of doing so. Now, patients in New York are forced to wait an average of 27 hours for a hospital bed. Nurses in California are protesting the closure of a local NICU. Expectant mothers in northeast Ohio have to travel up to 32 miles to deliver their babies. Our health care system is being wracked by overcrowded emergency rooms, mass layoffs, and a rise in uncompensated care.
If that wasn’t enough, the Trump administration is now proposing two rules that would drain hundreds of billions of dollars more from hospitals. At a time when our safety net is already crumbling, Republicans are going after the care that working families need most.
