Bayfield, Wis. — Gov. Tony Evers has appointed Carol Fahrenkrog, executive director of the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau, to serve as chair of the Wisconsin Coastal Management Council.
The council advises the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program and helps establish policies guiding its work. Its members represent state agencies, local and tribal governments, and members of the public with an interest in coastal issues.
The Wisconsin Coastal Management Program works to protect and improve access to the natural, cultural and historic resources along Wisconsin’s Great Lakes coasts. Since 1978, the program has partnered with state, local and tribal governments and nonprofit organizations to support the ecological and economic health of Wisconsin’s coastal communities.
“I am honored to serve on this important state council and help protect Wisconsin’s Great Lakes coasts,” Fahrenkrog said. “Lake Superior’s clean water and coastal resources are among Bayfield’s most important environmental and economic assets. We must preserve them for future generations while continuing to improve public access to the water.”
Bayfield has a long history of representation on the council, including the service of former Bayfield Mayor Larry MacDonald.
As a Lake Superior community and year-round visitor destination, Bayfield understands the importance of protecting coastal resources while supporting public access, sustainable tourism and a strong local economy. Fahrenkrog’s leadership will help ensure that the needs and opportunities of Bayfield and the Lake Superior region remain part of statewide discussions about the future of Wisconsin’s Great Lakes coast.
