— Attorney General Josh Kaul is applauding Canadian e-commerce platform Shopify for taking e-cigarettes and other vaping products off its website, following an earlier appeal from nearly two-dozen states including Wisconsin.
The state Department of Justice issued the release after the business banned the sale of these products on its platform, which Kaul says will make it more difficult for young people to obtain vaping products.
“We must continue working to help protect against the health consequences that can result from vaping,” he said in a statement.
DOJ says the move is a “direct response” to the letter sent in November 2025, which warned of the health risks and highly addictive nature of e-cigarettes, particularly for young people. It referenced “unlawful conduct” by companies using the Shopify platform to sell e-cigarettes, alleging this activity constituted an “unquestioned public health hazard.”
The letter called for a more comprehensive solution even after Shopify removed sellers that were identified as doing business on its platform illegally.

— Gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong told healthcare workers and union members that if elected she would sign legislation eliminating mandatory overtime for Wisconsin nurses.
She said the governor has a duty to advocate for healthcare workers with “the largest microphone in the state.”
“There’s a responsibility there to set expectations and let corporate hospitals that are fighting workers know that Wisconsin is a union state,” Hong said yesterday.
Hong made her remarks alongside the five other Democrats running for governor in a forum hosted by the Service Employees International Union.
Hong authored legislation that would end mandatory overtime for nurses, which was cosigned by fellow guv candidate and state Sen. Kelda Roys. But it lacked a path to becoming law because it was introduced after the Assembly had adjourned.
All six candidates said they would sign legislation repealing Act 10 and Wisconsin’s private sector right-to-work law and expand bargaining rights for public and private employees, particularly UW Health workers and independent caregivers.
