Bayfield, Wis. (June 18, 2026) — Tourism continued to be a major economic driver for the Bayfield area in 2025, with new local analysis showing the Bayfield visitor economy generated an estimated $70.5 million in total economic impact for the year.
The Bayfield specific analysis, prepared by Lizzie Camstra Hughes of Camstra Analytics, takes a look at Bayfield’s own visitor economy. The 2025 full-year baseline estimates $54.2 million in direct visitor spending from approximately 270,000 visitors to Bayfield.
“These numbers tell the story of how important visitors are to Bayfield’s local economy,” said Carol Fahrenkrog, Executive Director of the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau. “Having a clearer picture of Bayfield’s local impact helps us better understand the value of strategic tourism promotion and the importance of sustaining a strong visitor economy for our member businesses.”
The new analysis follows the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s release of 2025 economic impact data, which showed Bayfield County tourism generated a record $100 million in total economic impact. Bayfield County ranked among the top three counties in the state for year-over-year tourism growth, reflecting continued demand for the region’s outdoor recreation, cultural experiences and Lake Superior shoreline communities.
In 2025, Bayfield welcomed visitors throughout the year for signature events and experiences, including Apple Festival, Art Escape, Apostle Islands Cruises, kayaking, sailing, shopping, dining, orchards, galleries and outdoor recreation. These experiences continue to draw visitors while supporting the small businesses and organizations that make Bayfield a distinctive destination.
