Spectrum: Spectrum awards $55,000 in Spectrum Digital Education Grants to three Wisconsin Nonprofits

MILWAUKEE – June 17, 2026 – Spectrum today announced three Wisconsin nonprofits received $55,000 in Spectrum Digital Education grants for their digital literacy programming. Greater Milwaukee Urban League (GMUL) received $15,000, United Way of Greater Chippewa Valley (UWGCV) in Eau Claire was awarded $20,000, and the Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Investment Board (NWWIB) in Ashland received $20,000.

In total, Spectrum has awarded $1.1 million in 2026 Spectrum Digital Education grants to 56 nonprofits across its service area. The latest grants bring Spectrum’s total investment in the program to more than $12 million since 2017.

What is Spectrum Digital Education?

Spectrum Digital Education partners with local nonprofits on programs that expand access to technology and digital skills training in the communities Spectrum serves. Grants have helped create computer and learning labs, provide devices for individuals and families in need, offer digital literacy programs for seniors, deliver career readiness and workforce training to adults and introduce students to hands-on STEM learning.

GMUL’s AI Boot Camp will strengthen students’ ability to use AI tools effectively, navigate automated systems, and apply technology-driven solutions in ways that expand career opportunities. Undergraduate and grad students from Milwaukee School of Engineering and Marquette University will function as session facilitators, technical mentors, instructional assistants and project advisors.

UWGCV shifted its Digital Access & Engagement initiative to include teaching classes in the community full-time. During the 2024-2025 fiscal year, it served 134 seniors and veterans and distributed 287 devices to seniors, veterans, and the ALICE population in the Chippewa Valley. UWGCV also offers iPhone, Android, Internet Safety, and Intro to AI courses in addition to the digital literacy classes.

NWWIB’s Community Digital Navigator program provides one-on-one and small group digital skills support to low-income families and seniors in rural northwest Wisconsin. Two Digital Navigators are embedded in libraries and community spaces, offering hands-on assistance with device use, online job applications, resume platforms, telehealth portals, email setup, online safety and basic computer skills.

“Digital access is important for strong communities – it’s at the center of how people learn, work, access services and stay connected to the people and information that matter most,” said Rahman Khan, Group Vice President, Community Impact. “As America’s Connectivity Company, we understand the role technology plays in everyday life, and Spectrum Digital Education supports nonprofits that give communities the skills, tools and support to make the most of it.”
