Madison – The Wisconsin Technology Council today commended Governor Evers and the Wisconsin Legislature for approving 2025 Assembly Bill 657, now 2025 Wisconsin Act 165, which creates a targeted sales and use tax exemption for materials, equipment, and other items used exclusively in qualified nuclear fusion technology projects.
“This legislation helps ensure that cutting-edge fusion technologies developed in Wisconsin can also be commercialized and built here at home,” said Maggie Brickerman, President of the Wisconsin Technology Council.
The Wisconsin Technology Council, the independent, non-partisan science and technology advisor to the Governor and Legislature, has long supported policies that strengthen Wisconsin’s innovation economy, advance high-growth sectors, and create high-paying jobs. Act 165 aligns with those goals by helping create an environment where transformative technologies can take root and thrive in the state.
This achievement would not have been possible without the efforts of the legislation’s main authors, Senator Dan Feyen (R – Fond du Lac) and Representative Ben Franklin (R – De Pere), as well as many of their legislative colleagues. These efforts culminated with Governor Evers signing the legislation at the Capitol yesterday.
Nuclear fusion represents a promising frontier with potential to deliver clean, abundant energy and drive advancements across multiple industries. This tax incentive will help Wisconsin-based companies and research institutions compete nationally and globally while contributing to the state’s long-term economic vitality.
