Fundraising continues for fourth sheet of ice to meet growing demand for ice time.
(De Pere, Wis.) – Ice sports are drawing renewed national attention after a milestone year for U.S. hockey and figure skating. Olympic success and increased national viewership for international competitions are driving momentum that is being reflected locally.
Youth participation is growing across ice programs, including skating lessons and community sports. Cornerstone Community Center continues fundraising to develop a fourth sheet of ice to meet rising demand and expand opportunities for athletes, families and community members.
In late March, Cornerstone will serve as a national stage and host the USA Hockey National Championships, bringing elite teams from across the country. This season, Cornerstone will also host the 2026 National Hockey League (NHL) draft class.
Olympic hopefuls, future professionals and scouts from NHL and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) programs are expected to attend, highlighting the growing role facilities like Cornerstone Community Center play in developing American hockey talent.
“The past year has reminded people across the country why ice sports resonate with so many communities,” said Don Chilson, Cornerstone Manager. “Here at the local level, we’re seeing that same enthusiasm translate into more young athletes entering programs and more families spending time at the rink.”
The planned fourth sheet will expand capacity for youth hockey, figure skating, school teams and public skating, while strengthening the facility’s ability to host tournaments, camps and regional events. It will support regional tournaments, boost local business and provide young athletes more opportunities to train and compete. The additional rink will relieve scheduling pressures and help attract more national events in coming years.
“Cornerstone has become a place where athletes develop skills, friendships and a lifelong connection to the sport,” said Chilson. “Expanding the facility ensures the next generation of athletes have the same opportunity.”
Fundraising for the fourth rink remains ongoing, with opportunities for community members, local businesses and philanthropic partners to support the project.
