— Liberal Supreme Court candidate Chris Taylor today released two new TV ads focused on abortion, including one that declares the issue is “on the ballot” this April.
Taylor’s campaign said the spots will run statewide on TV and digital. According to AdImpact, she had more than $300,000 in ads reserved over the next week as of late yesterday. By comparison, conservative Maria Lazar had about $31,000 laid down.
One spot plays a clip of Lazar saying the decision overturning Roe v. Wade was “actually very wise” and a “good move forward.” The narrator adds Lazar has been supported by a group behind Roe’s reversal and “radical organizations pushing for a near total abortion ban.”
The narrator touts Taylor’s work for Planned Parenthood, “where she fought for survivors of sexual assault to receive emergency contraception” before concluding the spot, “Vote your values. Vote Judge Chris Taylor on or before April 7th.”
The second ad features a woman identified as Christie, a registered nurse. She says when someone who’s been raped comes into the emergency room, “they need our help.”
She adds, “If Judge Maria Lazar had her way, that help would never come.”
Christie says Lazar “boasts” about support from “radical anti-abortion extremists” who oppose providing emergency contraception to sexual assault survivors and now wants to be on the Supreme Court, “where she could outlaw abortion in Wisconsin.”
She ends the spot, “That’s not justice. That’s cruelty.”
Abortion has been a significant issue in the last two Supreme Court contests, and Lazar has sought to address the topic in several ways. That includes a column earlier this year in which she pledged to uphold Wisconsin’s ban on abortion after 20 weeks, calling it a “compromise.”
