Rep. Johnson: “The vote was green”: Gail’s Law and postpartum coverage passes the Assembly

MADISON, WI — Representative Tara Johnson (D-Town of Shelby) released the following statement on the Wisconsin State Assembly’s unanimous passage of Gail’s Law and postpartum coverage:

“Today the Assembly took a critical step forward for Wisconsin women by voting on Medicaid expansion for postpartum coverage and enhanced early breast cancer screenings. With overwhelming bipartisan support, Gail’s Law passed 96 to 0, and postpartum coverage, 95 to 1.”

“The years of tireless work by advocates, constituents, legislators, and most importantly, the family of Gail Zeamer, has finally paid off. Because of so much hard work and perseverance by so many people, today the legislature passed Gail’s Law. Wisconsin is finally a state where women can receive the care they need to save their lives.”

“Today’s victory is owed to the people of Wisconsin who never backed down in their pursuit of saving women’s lives. Today, the vote was green.”
