MADISON, WI – Yesterday, Assembly Democrats stood up and refused to let lifesaving bills continue to sit in limbo, aggressively pushing amendments on Postpartum Medicaid expansion and Gail’s Law. And today, Republicans have both bills on the calendar.
Representative Ben DeSmidt (D-Kenosha) shared the following statement:
“I’m so proud of our caucus. For years, Democratic women in our caucus have been relentless in fighting to extend Postpartum Medicaid coverage. They’ve shared their stories, met with families, and pushed Republican leadership to act. And finally, today, postpartum care is getting the vote it deserves because of their efforts.
I cannot thank the women in our caucus enough for not backing down in this fight. I’m also grateful to every member of our caucus who stood together yesterday to demand action. These votes on Postpartum care and Gail’s Law are happening today because Democrats and advocates absolutely refused to let them be ignored.
And while this is likely the last floor day before we adjourn for the year, and there are many other issues Republican leadership chose not to bring forward, today is certainly worth celebrating.”
