Eagle River, WI – The basics of maple syrup—from tap to sap to syrup—offer a world of flavor waiting to be unlocked. On March 21, 2026, Trees For Tomorrow (TFT) environmental educator and maple syrup aficionado Todd Starling will lead participants on a hands-on maple syrup–making adventure.
The class will be held on TFT’s historic campus from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and by the time participants leave, they’ll be ready to start their own maple syrup–making escapade at home.
After a short introduction about the history and science behind maple syrup, the hands-on portion will guide participants through the whole operation. Learners will then be led through the sugaring process step-by-step from identifying and tapping trees and collecting sap, to boiling the sap and bottling a final product. With a wealth of maple trees native to our area and so intrinsically tied to our culture and history, utilization of this invaluable resource promotes sustainable forestry practices and a connection to our local environment.
Cost of participation is $55 per individual or $70 per couple/pair. Pre-registration is required and can be done at https://treesfortomorrow.com/Current-Activities/. Each registration type includes a sap kit (3 taps, 3 sap sacks, 3 zip ties, 3 PVC sap sack holders plus assembly instructions) and a beginner how-to book. Restrooms are available on campus and refreshments will be provided towards the end of our class—participants can also bring their own snacks. If you have any additional questions please contact Casey Sprotte, SLI coordinator, casey@treesfortomorrow.com.
