Cable, WI – January 13, 2026 – Registration for the 2026 Slumberland American Birkebeiner , North America’s premier cross-country ski marathon will close Tuesday, January 13 at 11:59PM-CT. Competitor entries have reached near capacity for this year’s event, which will take place during Birkie Week — February 18 through February 22, 2026. (American Birkebeiner)
In addition, registration for the Birkie Open Track, the skier-paced Wednesday experience on the renowned Birkebeiner course, will also close with the American Birkebeiner race. Athletes who have not yet finalized their registration are strongly encouraged to complete all required steps at birkie.com before the registration system is taken offline.
Organized by the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF), the Slumberland American Birkebeiner has been drawing skiers from across the United States and around the world since its inception in 1973. The event encompasses a week of competitive and non-competitive ski experiences that celebrate the sport’s heritage, athleticism, and community spirit.
The Open Track format — available for Birkie (50K), Kortelopet (30K), and Prince Haakon (15K) distances — provides a less crowded, self-paced opportunity to ski the full or partial course at individual start times. Open Track participants enjoy a flexible race experience while still traversing the iconic trail system that connects Cable and Hayward, Wisconsin. (American Birkebeiner)
