ATC, Wisconsin Emergency Management: Execute first live PACE exercise

Hands-on radio exercise conducted by both entities

Wis. – ATC is proud to announce that its PACE Communications plan successfully passed clear and concise messages using the state’s WISCOM radio system. This is the first time this type of exercise has been tested between WEM and an electric utility. The hands-on exercise tested the radio system from the System Operating Center in Pewaukee to the Pewaukee substation to the Aprin substation. Additional messages were also communicated to the State Emergency Operations Center.

“The testing process verified that our required communications will continue to operate securely and dependably,” said Nate Wilke, ATC Real Time Operations manager. “It’s a testament to our commitment at ATC to not only be functional and operational, but to prioritize safety and resiliency for the region.”

ATC’s PACE Communications plan was created in conjunction with other state utilities and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM). This test had been about three years in the making with an emphasis on how PACE would be utilized for different levels of communication. This recent test gave ATC the opportunity to test our emergency mode of communication with WEM and the state Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
