VPI highlights success in educational training and job placement through Spectrum’s grant program
APPLETON, Wis. (Oct. 20, 2025) – Spectrum today announced VPI received an additional $35,000 toward its workforce development program through Spectrum Community Center Assist (SCCA), the company’s $30 million philanthropic initiative to revitalize local community centers and invest in job training programs in underserved rural and urban neighborhoods where Spectrum operates.
Over the past three years, Spectrum has provided a total of $125,000 to support the organization’s efforts.
“Spectrum’s support allows us to continue offering services to local individuals throughout Appleton and the greater Fox Valley area,” said Tim Riebau, President and CEO of VPI. “With each job placement or hiring, we are able to help individuals find comfort and stability, which will make a long-lasting impact on families within the region.”
VPI began in 1956 by finding opportunities for individuals with disabilities to enter the workforce. With its contract packaging facility, VPI was able to fully serve the Fox Cities. In addition to direct employment, VPI offers early intervention, education, mental health and employment services to more than 2,000 individuals annually.
In 2024, VPI provided 151 internship opportunities and 722 hours of classroom instruction through its educational program. It also helped 80 individuals obtain community employment.
“The partnership we’ve built with VPI is making a real difference in the lives of local residents by giving them the skills, tools and updated facilities they need to improve their economic opportunities,” said Rahman Khan, Group Vice President, Community Impact for Charter Communications. “Through Spectrum Community Center Assist, thousands of people across the communities we serve have already benefited, and we look forward to expanding our impact with VPI as they offer essential job training.”
Spectrum launched the partnership in 2023 during which Spectrum employees and community volunteers helped make repairs and improvements to VPI’s Kensington Production Facility. Spectrum also provided a $50,000 grant, Chromebooks, a Smartboard, and its advanced 1-gigabit-per-second internet service for the organization’s new Spectrum Training & Technology Center. Spectrum provided an additional $40,000 grant in 2024.
Spectrum started Spectrum Community Center Assist in 2021 and will invest $30 million to benefit 100 community centers and job training programs in underserved areas across the company’s 41-state footprint. At each location, Spectrum invests in the community center’s job training efforts with cash grants and in-kind contributions, improves physical classroom spaces, sponsors rebuilding events with volunteers to repair and enhance the physical buildings, and provides new equipment, including laptops and furniture.
