Spectrum: Serving Older Adults receives $20,000 grant, hosts tech literacy class with Spectrum at Art of Aging Expo

Ongoing Partnership Between Spectrum, Serving Older Adults Promotes Digital Literacy for Seniors in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (Oct. 8, 2025) – Spectrum today presented Serving Older Adults with a $20,000 digital education grant and hosted a tech literacy class to provide seniors in Milwaukee helpful tips for maximizing the WiFi experience in their home and staying safe online as part of an ongoing partnership with the organization.

With the grant, Serving Older Adults will bolster its Tech Connect for Older Adults, which offers one-on-one learning opportunities, lectures, workshops and courses geared toward ensuring individuals can stay connected through social media, visit with doctors virtually, bank online and so much more.

“For individuals that struggle with mobility or with health concerns, technology can keep them connected with friends and family while remaining safe,” said Michael Vanblaricum, President and CEO of Serving Older Adults. “By offering technology training, we’re opening up a whole new world through phones, tablets and laptops that wouldn’t be possible without Spectrum’s support.”

Spectrum Digital Education partners with nonprofits that share a commitment to using technology as a tool for opportunity, whether to pursue education, find employment, access healthcare or stay connected to news and information, and to their friends and family. The nonprofits selected to receive a 2025 grant support a wide range of community members, from seniors and veterans to students and jobseekers, with programs covering one-on-one technology coaching, AI skills courses and certificates, and community tech hubs that make digital tools more accessible.

“Technology is a powerful equalizer, but only if people have access to a computer and then know how to use it,” said Matt Brown, Spectrum’s Area Vice President for Field Operations in Wisconsin. “Through Spectrum Digital Education, we’re helping our nonprofit partners turn connectivity into real opportunities for their communities, from education and employment to everyday connection and independence.”

This is the third consecutive year Serving Older Adults has received the grant from Spectrum. The nonprofit previously received $35,000 in 2023 and $15,000 in 2024 for the Tech Connect program.
