WISCONSIN – Today, Protect Our Care is launching new ads holding Republicans, including Representative Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), accountable for the impending government shutdown and a health care crisis of their own making. Republican lawmakers plan to shut down the government unless they can continue cutting Medicaid to the bone, hike costs, and gut health care tax credits for over 20 million hardworking Americans. Since taking power, Donald Trump, Representative Van Orden, and congressional Republicans have launched a barrage of attacks on our health care system, but they aren’t satisfied yet. They are hurling us towards a shutdown to pass a bill that worsens their self-made health care crisis, all to fund massive tax breaks for billionaires.
“Republicans like Representative Derrick Van Orden are using their power in Congress to wage an all-out war on Americans’ ability to afford health care – and they’re threatening to shut down the government to do it,” said Protect Our Care Wisconsin State Director Joe Zepecki. “The GOP kicked working families off Medicaid, closed hospitals, and made the biggest cuts to health care in history. Now they’re jacking up health insurance premiums by as much as 90 percent. GOP lawmakers are to blame for this pain and their constituents need to know it.”
The ads will launch in the following states: Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Dan Sullivan (AK), Jon Husted (OH), Pete Ricketts (NE), Shelley Moore Capito (WV), David Schweikert (AZ-01), Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), David Valadao (CA-22), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), Tom Barrett (MI-07), Mike Lawler (NY-17), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), Scott Perry (PA-10), and Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07).
