The Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities applauds the bipartisan work of Representatives Scott Krug (R )and Lee Snodgrass (D) for their joint press conference held earlier today to announce a package of proposed voting bills aimed at making voting easier. Several of these bills impact people with disabilities and older adults, including requiring election officials to receive an extra hour of training on accessibility, mandating uniform signage and instructions at polling places, and requiring the use of the Wisconsin Election Commission’s Accessibility Checklist when setting up polling locations.
Over the last few weeks, voters with disabilities have been particularly concerned about their ability to continue voting by absentee ballot or mail-in voting following comments from President Trump about potentially ending those options. Rep. Krug assured Wisconsinites that Wisconsin voting machines are safe and secure and that “absentee voting is here to stay.” He went on to emphasize that Wisconsin has its own election system that will not be impacted by the federal government.
BPDD looks forward to continued bipartisan work with legislative leaders to ensure eligible Wisconsin residents with disabilities can exercise their right to vote.
