Rep. Knodl: Fellow legislators urge Governor Evers to provide business disaster relief after August floods

Madison, WI — Representative Dan Knodl (R–Germantown), joined by legislative colleagues, today sent a letter to Governor Tony Evers calling for a $20 million Business Disaster Relief Grant Program to help businesses devastated by the August 9, 2025, flooding.

“Small and mid-sized businesses are the backbone of our local economies,” said Rep. Knodl. “Many were destroyed or severely damaged in the floods. Federal programs don’t provide direct grants, and without immediate state support, too many risk closing for good.”

The proposed program would provide grants of up to $100,000 per business to cover uninsured losses and prioritize locally owned businesses in the hardest-hit counties of Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha.

Following visits to flood-impacted businesses, Rep. Knodl and colleagues saw firsthand the destruction and the uncertainty facing owners and employees. The group is urging Governor Evers to act swiftly to help preserve jobs and stabilize communities.
