Wisconsin Nurses Association: APRNs applaud legislators’ passage of the APRN Modernization Act

MADISON – June 18, 2025 – Yesterday, both chambers of the Wisconsin State Legislature unanimously passed the APRN Modernization Act (Assembly Bill 257 and Senate Bill 258).

The members of the Wisconsin Affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives, Wisconsin Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Wisconsin Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and Wisconsin Nurses Association, extend their sincere thanks to all the legislators for their vote. The members especially want to thank Senator Patrick Testin and Representative Tony Kurtz for their leadership in moving this bill forward.

“This legislation has had a long journey, and we are pleased that it is moving to the Governor’s desk”, said Gina Dennik-Champion, Executive Director of WNA.

The member organizations acknowledge that reaching consensus together made this outcome possible. They look forward to obtaining a separate APRN license and providing increased access to health care services for people across Wisconsin.
