Greater Milwaukee Urban League: Spectrum awards $40,000 digital education grant to Greater Milwaukee Urban League

Funds ensure Milwaukee community receives access to digital literacy tools and resources

MILWAUKEE – May 5, 2025 – Spectrum yesterday awarded Greater Milwaukee Urban League with a $40,000 Spectrum Digital Education grant for its digital literacy programs. Spectrum Digital Education awarded $1.3 million to 66 organizations in 2024.

Since launching in 2017, Spectrum Digital Education has committed more than $10 million to nonprofits focused on improving digital literacy, workforce development and educational access in unserved and undeserved communities across Charter’s 41-state service area.

“Connectivity is the foundation for meaningful learning, professional growth and human connection,” said Rahman Khan, Group Vice President, Community Impact for Spectrum. “Spectrum Digital Education supports programs that empower community members to enhance their lives with connectivity, which helps build strong, thriving communities.”

Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s digital literacy initiative builds upon the success of its Microsoft Certification program with the addition of Digital Foundations — a complementary course focused on essential computer skills. Students in the Digital Foundations course gain the knowledge and confidence to use technology effectively, ethically, and responsibly, preparing them to transition into more advanced training. Classes are offered to youth, adults, and seniors on a rotation basis, and the coursework can be completed at the students’ own pace.

“We are deeply grateful to Spectrum for this generous grant, which supports our continued commitment to advancing digital education across Milwaukee,” said Dr. Eve M. Hall, President and CEO of the Greater Milwaukee Urban League. “In today’s tech-driven world, these courses serve as vital pathways—empowering participants with the skills they need to strengthen our community and access high-quality, well-paying jobs.”

This latest grant is the third Spectrum Digital Education Grant awarded to Greater Milwaukee Urban League, bringing Spectrum’s total support for the organization to $110,000 over the past six years.

Celebrating the 66 Spectrum Digital Education Champions

Through direct support of nonprofit partners across Spectrum’s service area, Spectrum Digital Education has helped distribute over 18,500 laptops and sponsor more than 40,000 digital education classes, benefiting over 163,000 community members since 2017. The Greater Milwaukee Urban League is one of 66 nonprofit organizations awarded a 2024 Spectrum Digital Education grant.
