UW Health and Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam complete definitive agreement
MADISON, Wis. – UW Health and Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam have officially reached an agreement to bring the medical center into the UW Health system of care.
This milestone reflects steady progress and disciplined planning, according to Carey Gehl, chief strategy officer, UW Health.
“This is an important milestone,” she said. “We are committed to helping patients receive care as close to home as possible while also creating additional access points to meet the growing demand across UW Health.”
Expanding local inpatient and acute care capacity in this way helps ensure sustainable, high-quality access to care for the region, according to Gehl.
For patients and families in Dodge County and surrounding communities, this milestone also represents expanded access to coordinated care, specialty services and the strength of an academic health system. This agreement reflects broader efforts to strengthen access to care across southern Wisconsin, particularly in rural and community-based settings.
Marshfield Medical Center–Beaver Dam is a fully integrated medical campus that includes a hospital, a skilled nursing facility and independent senior living apartments. In addition to services offered on the main campus, it operates two assisted living facilities and primary care clinics in Columbus, Horicon and Waupun, extending access to care throughout the greater Dodge County region of southeastern Wisconsin.
The organizations are continuing to work together to finalize a framework for transitioning services in a way that is supportive of the community, according to Dr. Brian Hoerneman, president and CEO, Marshfield Clinic.
“We are proud of the care our teams have provided to communities across Dodge County, and we’re confident this next chapter will build on that strong foundation,” he said. “We’re committed to ensuring a seamless experience for patients, providers and staff.”
Approximately 425 employees will transition to UW Health, with a focus on continuity in care teams and preserving local relationships that patients rely on.
Patients will continue to access care at the Beaver Dam campus as they do today. The next several months will include a coordinated transition approach with an official closing anticipated before the end of the year. Following close, UW Health will begin phased integration efforts, including aligning clinical systems, expanding specialty services and enhancing recruitment to support long-term access to care in the region.
