GREEN BAY, Wis.— The Sharon J. Resch Institute of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay invites young pianists and music lovers alike to celebrate creativity, artistry, and community at UW-Green Bay Piano Day 2026, taking place March 27–28, 2026 at Fort Howard Hall in The Weidner.
Piano Day begins Friday evening, March 27, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. with a guest recital by internationally acclaimed pianist Distinguished Professor of Piano at Louisiana State University, Michael Gurt. Known for his dynamic performances and commitment to education, Gurt has inspired audiences and students across the country and around the world.
The celebration continues Saturday, March 28, 2026, with a full day dedicated to young artists. Piano Day offers student performers (Pre-K through high school seniors) a unique opportunity to perform on a concert grand Steinway in a professional concert hall setting creating an unforgettable experience for developing musicians.
The day will also include masterclasses, workshops, and collaborative learning opportunities designed to support pianists at every level, with guest artist Gurt, and UW-Green Bay faculty members Sylvia Hong, Associate Professor Chris Salerno and Professor Michael Rector.
Workshops include:
- Working with faculty or guest artist on technique and musical interpretation
- Participating in hands-on workshops focused on specific skills
- Learning from one another through peer observation, shared practice and guided discussion
Hosted by the Sharon J. Resch Institute of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Piano Day reflects the Institute’s ongoing commitment to nurturing emerging talent and building meaningful connections between young artists and professional musicians.
“Our goal is that everyone who loves piano music will feel welcome to observe or participate—all ages and levels of ability.” said Rector.
The event is free and open to participants and the public. Students, teachers, families, and community members are encouraged to attend and support the next generation of pianists.
