GREEN BAY, Wis. — This week, the University of Wisconsin‑Green Bay opens its doors to Northeast Wisconsin to showcase what the future of learning, and the region’s workforce, looks like in action.
On Wednesday, April 29, community members are invited to attend UW‑Green Bay’s Academic Excellence Symposium, a dynamic, day‑long celebration of student research, scholarship and creative work, hosted on the third floor of the Cofrin Library on the UW-Green Bay campus.
The symposium features projects from undergraduate and graduate students across all UW‑Green Bay campuses, offering a powerful look at how students are applying their education to solve real‑world challenges—right here in Northeast Wisconsin.
A Front‑Row Seat to Innovation
From 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., attendees can explore poster sessions, presentations and interactive discussions that reflect the breadth of UW‑Green Bay’s future‑focused academic programs, spanning disciplines such as arts and civic engagement, PFAs and genotyping.
Expect to see:
- Research tackling healthcare access, sustainability and mental health
- Business and education projects responding to workforce and community needs
- Creative and interdisciplinary work that blends theory with hands‑on problem‑solving
- Student innovation shaped by faculty mentorship and community‑engaged learning
These are not hypothetical classroom exercises. They are ideas, solutions and insights developed by students preparing to lead in fast‑changing industries – often in partnership with local organizations, schools and nonprofits.
More Than a Symposium—A Statement of Purpose
The Academic Excellence Symposium reflects UW‑Green Bay’s belief that education is not just about degrees, it’s about impact.
Each project on display represents a student forging a unique path forward, supported by a university designed to remove barriers, adapt to change and prepare learners for what’s next. For working adults, transfer students, first‑generation learners and traditional‑age students alike, UW‑Green Bay is redefining who higher education is for—and what it can do for a region.
By aligning academic programs with workforce needs and community challenges, the university is helping ensure Northeast Wisconsin remains competitive, resilient and full of opportunity.
Why It Matters to Northeast Wisconsin
UW‑Green Bay is more than a place of learning—it’s a driving force for regional growth. More than 75% of UW‑Green Bay graduates stay in the area, strengthening local businesses, schools, healthcare systems and civic organizations. Events like the Academic Excellence Symposium show how that talent is cultivated—and why a strong UW‑Green Bay is critical to the region’s quality of life.
When UW‑Green Bay students rise, Northeast Wisconsin rises with them.
