During their visit, the Governor and First Lady toured the birthing center and postpartum unit and met with clinical staff to learn firsthand the compassionate, high-quality care Meriter offers to families across the state. The Evers’ daughter Dr. Erin Schoenecker is a physician at Madison Women’s Health and delivers babies at Meriter, helped to lead the tour. She has delivered over 1,000 babies at Meriter.
The visit comes on the heels of Governor Evers’ recent signing of legislation expanding postpartum Medicaid coverage from 60 to 365 days. Meriter’s birthing leadership team was engaged in the legislative process to provide more access to postpartum care for Wisconsin’s residents. This legislation is truly transformative for the families we serve,” Missy Binotto, labor and deliver nurse manager at Meriter.
“Extending postpartum coverage to a full year allows us to better support mothers during a critical period for both physical and mental health. We are incredibly grateful to Governor Evers for his leadership on this issue and honored to welcome him and the First Lady to see the work we do every day. It means so much to our team, especially knowing their daughter is an important part of the care we provide here at the busiest birthing center in Wisconsin.”
Meriter remains committed to advancing maternal and infant health through compassionate care and advocacy.
